Client requirements
The Primary English Teacher’s Association of NSW launched an initiative to support students in developing their writing skills, schools would have access to a comprehensive website and to creative writing workshops conducted by published Australian children’s authors. The workshops would be delivered online by serving video files. A competition for the best work would provide an incentive for students to participate. The portal would showcase the winning student’s writing pieces and allow them to submit questions to be answered by the authors.
Solution
PretaWeb delivered a solution using the Plone content management system and the add on module Plone for Artists. Plone4ArtistsVideo allows the uploading, embedding and serving of videos on a Plone site. In this case, the authors are filmed giving a lesson and this is available on the website for any teachers to show during class time.
Dynamic up to date news and events portlets feature competition milestones and famous author bulletins.
Customer benefits
By using a Plone based system content management system, the teachers are able to edit and manage content easily from any physical location using the web interface. By filming lessons with famous authors and serving the videos using Plone4ArtistsVideo, their expertise and knowledge can be shared by broadcasting from the website to any classroom in the state
