"We became clients of PretaWeb over three years ago and the service and support we have received has been exceptional."

Catherine Gander, Executive Officer, NSW Women's Refuge Resource Centre

"It is extremely rare in my experience to have a team pick up a project like ours and get it right on the first attempt.  My sense is that you listen better than others - more than listen, you seem to comprehend the deeper, ineffable requirements more quickly than most."

PretaWeb partners with the Government Chief Information Office to bring cost effective open source web solutions to New South Wales.

nswgovlogo.gifSydney based Plone web solutions provider PretaWeb has been engaged by the NSW Government Chief Information Office to support and maintain their open source shared web hosting platform. The objective is to provide smaller agencies with cost effective enterprise content management solutions. The total cost of ownership reductions are realised in two ways; firstly shared hosting allows many websites to reside on the same group of servers. This reduces maintenance and support expenses as charges are shared across individual websites owned by separate agencies hosting on the servers. Secondly all software used to power the web environment are open source resulting in zero licence fees, this includes the Linux operating system, Apache web server, Zope application server and Plone enterprise content management system. The savings gained with the zero licence fees allows that money to be directed towards more functionality when developing the web solution and/or funding of ongoing support and maintenance.

The first agency to take advantage of the shared web server platform was Parramatta Park Trust. The Trust needed to replace their static HTML site to a content management system. In addition to having the ability to easily update content themselves via a user friendly web interface, they required an automated online booking form for park facilities, social book marking and audio/video support with inline browser playback functionality.

PretaWeb has over the past several years established a core business with Plone, one of the world’s largest community open source content management systems. They have built a strong reputation in Australia as a specialist in Plone development and support. The company has seen a significant increase in interest by Governments round the world in adopting open source technology for the significant cost savings open source offers in comparison to traditional proprietary solutions.
